Wow…really terrific post. I am answering your questions in my mind, but I won’t share here. At least not right now. Thank you so much for this awesome post. I needed this today.
Hi Jane,
My story, in many ways, parallels yours, but in a different time and different space. I was driven by money in the beginning (as many young people are), but learned early on that family was more important. As it turns out, I’ve never made “real money” in my life, and fame has passed me by without so much as a glance my way, but I do have a family that I’m very proud of, and I have no regrets about the path that I chose.
Socrates said, “The unexamined life isn’t worth living.” And Ms Jane, if that’s true, and I believe it is, you’re on the way to a rich and rewarding life. Just remember to turn off the microscope every so often –breathe– and enjoy the moment, because they are fleeting.
Hope, Thank you for your feedback, and that is what I needed too (to know that my writing helps). I wonder why many are afraid to answer this question… and what they may be hiding from themselves.
Lloyd, What surprised me was that I was “driven” by many things, but when push comes to shove and I had to make a choice, I chose in a way that I hadn’t assumed that I would choose. However, as I was writing this, I did ask Cass whether he felt this was indeed true, that I had always acted in a way that is aligned with ‘family first’. He agreed, therefore I felt honest sharing it!

I decided to write out some of my thoughts on this to share, Jane: Action vs. Words.
